The team should prepare a Requirements Definition Worksheet Template and submit this to the customer for verification and approval. PM1010-2 REQUIREMENTS DEFINITION covers dimensions, materials, weight, operating environment, and more. The Marketing Manager and the Engineering Manager should prepare a product brief to help translate the Requirements Definition and customer expectations into a preliminary set of specifications as the basis for subsequent design work and analysis.
During development of prototypes, the design team should continually review PM1010-2 REQUIREMENTS DEFINITION. In addition, consideration should be given to the requirements for safety, environmental, and other regulations. The design review should identify and anticipate problem areas and inadequacies, and initiate corrective actions to ensure that the final design and supporting data meet the Requirements Definition. Product testing, either in-house or outsourced, to evaluate performance, durability, safety, quality, reliability, and maintainability characteristics under a range of expected storage and operational conditions, should be in accordance with PM1010-2.
