The Beta Test Coordinator oversees all aspects of the beta test program.

BETA TEST COORDINATOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify potential problems and risks; establish and maintain a risk management program for beta testing
  • Design, implement, coordinate, and manage the beta testing process
  • Refine existing beta processes in order to more efficiently track and prioritize issues discovered during the process
  • Create beta-test plans for beta testers
  • Work with technical writer(s) to deliver beta feature documentation, and setup/manage resources for internal beta test activities
  • Provide direct support to beta testers by way of accurate, detailed, thorough, and timely support practices
  • Maintain a cordial, helpful demeanor with beta testers; cultivate relationships to encourage ongoing participation; help identify beta testing candidates
  • Monitor, measure, identify, and prioritize issues discovered during beta testing
  • Work with the internal team to prioritize issues; follow up with Engineering for resolution
  • Communicate the program’s status to testers periodically and as needed; ensure successful beta testing through effective communication

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports directly to the IT Manager. Works with Computer Engineering, Product Management, Technical Support, and internal and external beta testers.

BETA TEST COORDINATOR QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a similar discipline is required, as is 5+ years’ experience in software development and testing. A master’s degree in information management or similar discipline is preferred. Experience in network management, project management will be beneficial, as will tech support experience. Experience with beta test management software a definite plus. Also, prefer industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+).

Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and the ability to work well with people are essential.

BETA TEST COORDINATOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.

Activities require the ability to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time, occasionally move about inside the office to access files or office equipment, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, hand held devices, copy machine, and computer printer, and operate and monitor various medical equipment. Must be able to constantly position self to maintain equipment, including under tables and desks.

No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines.

This is primarily a first-shift position, but the candidate must be able to adapt to a changing schedule (i.e., may have to conduct some beta tests during evenings or on weekends).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting.  Activities include extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer monitor and phone.
