quality managerQUALITY MANAGER SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Quality Manage is responsible for overall development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization’s Quality Management System (QMS).

QUALITY MANAGER ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that the organization’s Quality Management System conforms to customer, internal, ISO 9001, and regulatory/legal requirements.
  • Ensure evaluation of, and reporting on, vendor quality systems.
  • Oversee inspection (examination) of incoming materials, ensuring that they meet requirements.
  • Manage the monitoring, measurement, and review of internal processes, especially those that affect the quality of the organization’s products.
  • Lead a team of Quality engineers, inspectors, auditors, analysts, and technicians
  • Work with customers, employees, contractors, and outsourcing firms to develop product requirements.
  • Report to top management on the performance of the QMS (e.g., results of quality audits, corrective actions), including the need for improvement.
  • Conduct periodic management review meetings.
  • Oversee product recalls.
  • Responsible for accuracy and timely inspection/calibration of monitoring and measuring devices.
  • Keep up on standards, regulations/laws, issues, and news with respect to product (service) quality.

Reports directly to the Director of Quality. Works in conjunction with Procurement, Production, and any other department that has an effect on the quality of the organization’s products.

QUALITY MANAGER QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in engineering or quality is required, as is 10 years of experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control. Current CQA or similar certification is required.

Quality managers must have proven ability to lead a diverse team of technicians. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels are essential. Must have strong organizational, analytical, problem solving, and management skills. Experience with MS-Office (especially Excel, Word) is needed. Project management experience is a plus.

QUALITY MANAGER PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and coworkers is crucial. Regular use of phone and email for communication is essential. Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents.

The ability to remain in a stationary position roughly 50% of the time, as well as the ability to move about the office occasionally (accessing files/storage, office equipment, computers and other office productivity devices, attending meetings, etc.), is required.

Using a computer while sitting for extended periods is common. Quality managers must also be able to position self to maintain equipment, including under tables and desks.

No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of 10-20 lbs. of force (e.g., carrying a laptop, binder, or both) is required. Good manual dexterity required to use common office equipment (e.g., computers, mobile devices, calculators, copiers, scanners).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is normally performed indoors, in a traditional office setting. Extended periods of sitting while using a computer or other devices are common. Occasional travel to vendor sites (10-15%) for audits, inspections, etc., may be required.
