Health Services AdministratorHEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

Plan, direct, and coordinate the operation of the health care organization. Responsible for facilities, services, programs, staff, budgets, and relations with other organizations.

HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hires and supervises personnel.
  • Develops training programs for nurses, interns, and other members in cooperation with the medical staff and department heads.
  • Handles the budget, including setting the fee schedule to be charged patients and establishing billing procedures.
  • Assists in planning current or future space needs, purchasing supplies, and equipment, and in ensuring the maintenance of buildings and equipment.
  • Provides for mail, phones, laundry, information, and other services for patients and staff.
  • Works closely with the governing board in the development of plans and policies. Carries out large projects concerned with expanding and developing the hospital’s services.
  • Holds regular meetings with the staff to discuss progress and to solve the facility’s problems.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the facility’s governing board and/or Physician. Works in conjunction with the various department heads.

HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR QUALIFICATIONS

A graduate degree in hospital or health services administration is required. Skills and traits required include tact, empathy, and self-discipline (self control). Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Require someone who is highly analytical, detail oriented, and possesses good problem-solving skills. Must be aware and knowledgeable of the current state of health care regulations and able to keep up with technological advances in health care.

HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Occasional travel to conduct business is necessary; some overnight travel may be required. Ability to communicate orally with board of directors, customers, vendors, shareholders, management, and other co-workers, both individually and in front of a group is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential.

Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing, vision, and speaking within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.

No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines.

8246Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of business problems. Able to apply statistical calculations, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and sampling theory as well as algebra, linear equations, and other analytics as required.  Able to understand and utilize financial reports and legal documents to conduct business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting and extensive work at a computer monitor and/or calculator.
