Complete HRG104-2 INTERVIEW FORM during the interview and use the form as a guide to ask questions. Any information collected and documented on the Job Interview Worksheet Template or as notes on a resume or application are “discoverable” documents that can be used in a lawsuit later. Focus on the facts regarding the candidate’s talent, abilities and experience. Avoid subjective comments based on the perception of the interviewer or discriminatory comments.
The hiring manager should use telephone interviews for all telephone-based positions, as well as out-of-town candidates to determine if an in-person interview is warranted. Use the HRG104-2 INTERVIEW FORM as a question guide. This is especially helpful over the phone, to keep the interview on track. Prepare to sell the company. Provide sources of information to prepare the candidate for the interview.
Be sure to balance the interview time. Spend the first 50% of the time on their resume, focus questions on them, and determine the candidate’s suitability for employment. Then, spend the remaining 50% of the time on selling them on the position and the company. Ask them if they have questions too. A good candidate should have questions.
