INTERNAL FOOD SAFETY AUDITOR QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree in food science or bioscience is preferable, though a degree in another science (e.g., biochemistry, chemical engineering, agribusiness) may be suitable, depending on additional training in courses related to food.

At least 5 years work experience of proven management function in food industry with minimum 2 years work experience in quality assurance function or food safety management system coordination. Current certification as an SQF, IFS, PAS 220, and/or ISO 22000 Auditor is preferable.

Require someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must be analytical, decisive, adaptable, ethical, a problem solver, and persuasive. Prefer candidate with logical, systematic approach to problem solving. Must be able to write clear, concise audit reports.

Need a team player who is able to carry out day-to-day duties without close supervision. Experience with Microsoft Office (esp. Excel) and Minitab helpful.

INTERNAL FOOD SAFETY AUDITOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to communicate orally with customers, vendors, management, and coworkers is crucial. Regular use of phone and email for communication is essential. Hearing and vision correctable to within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, receiving ordinary information, and preparing or inspecting documents.

The ability to remain in a stationary position roughly 50% of the time, as well as the ability to move about the office and plant (accessing files/storage, processing equipment, etc.), is required.

Using a computer while sitting for extended periods is not uncommon, though frequent moving about auditee’s facilities will occur. Must also be able to position self to test and inspect client’s equipment in place, at times.

No heavy lifting is expected, though occasional exertion of 10+ lbs. of force (e.g., picking up and carrying binders, laptops, gages/testers) may be required. Good manual dexterity required to use common office equipment (e.g., computers, mobile devices, calculators, copiers, scanners).

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting or in a food processing, storage, etc., facility. Some sitting while using a computer or other device, interspersed with moving about office and processing, storage, loading/unloading, and other facilities.
