Responsible for overseeing all aspects of grant funding, planning, and organizing all grant-funded programs for the organization.

GRANTS COORDINATOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Researches all governmental agencies and private foundations that offer grants, through compiling publications and verbal information from these sources.
  • Works in conjunction with other officers of the agency in planning and forecasting income and budgets.
  • Organizes and writes a grant proposal justifying the agency’s need for the grant; then forwards this to the appropriate fiscal officers and executives for approval.
  • Uses the format specified by the funding agency to create the grant proposal and submits it to the funding agency.
  • Takes care of any necessary follow-up, including meeting with the funding agency.
  • Upon receipt of a grant, the Grants Coordinator sees that the requirements of the funding organization are met.
  • Keeps organized and detailed files of funding agencies, grants applied for, grant proposals and other important data.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to Director of Sponsorship Marketing. Works in conjunction with the organization’s finance/accounting personnel.

GRANTS COORDINATOR QUALIFICATIONS

A bachelor’s degree is required. Good administrative skills and attention to detail are necessary. Must have experience working with non-profit and/or community-based organizations. Prefer experience in health policy, education, social services, community outreach, and/or public relations; experience in outreach and education and/or grants implementation or oversight are beneficial.

Must have excellent communication skills (oral and written). Must be able to work with diverse populations. Must have superb organizational, interpersonal skills. Must be comfortable with public speaking and presentations.

Require a great attention to detail, ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision, and ability to work well under pressure and in limited time frames.

Must have an excellent work ethic, be an initiator, and be diplomatic. Must be a logical, organized thinker and highly analytical. Prefer a “natural” leader.

Significant time can be spent working at grantee sites. Some overnight travel may be required; must be able to work evening hours and/or weekends, as needed.

GRANTS COORDINATOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to communicate orally with top management, coworkers, grantees, etc., is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and email for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is helpful for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.

No heavy lifting is expected. Exertion of up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, copiers, and FAX machines.

Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of business problems. Able to understand and utilize grant reports to conduct business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job is performed primarily indoors, in a traditional office setting. Activities include extended periods of sitting and extensive work with computers and communication devices.
