The CFO should review the policies and goals for using surplus funds with Top Management and the Board of Directors and describe them in part I of the Debt-Investment Plan Template. The CFO should note the methods and results of the analysis, along with recommendations for using surplus funds, in part II of RC1050-1 DEBT AND INVESTMENT PLAN.
The CFO should use results and recommendations for surplus funds to create a list of actions required to accomplish surplus fund goals and meet all established investment and surplus funds criteria. These activities should be listed on the RC1050-2 DEBT AND INVESTMENT ACTION LOG. Activities can include specific actions such as:
Pay certain amounts toward certain debts over specified period of time;
Invest certain amounts in specifically listed investment accounts and funds over a specific period of time; and
Distribute specific funds to shareholders or owners during a specific period of time.
The CFO should annually review the Debt and Investment Plan with Top Management and the Board of Directors.
