The Stock Clerk primarily receives, unpacks, stores, distributes, records, and tracks inventory for materials and products used by the organization.

STOCK CLERK ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Upon receipt of goods in the stockroom, unpack the shipment and check the contents against documents that list the contents of the shipment (e.g., B/L), verifying that the shipment has been received in full.
  • Inspect shipments and identify and segregate nonconforming (e.g., damaged) goods for detailed quality inspection.
  • Organizes goods and marks them with identifying codes or prices (or if the organization has an electronic inventory system, scans goods) and places those items into storage, in accordance with the organization’s inventory management system.
  • Brings merchandise to be sold to the sales floor and places items where they belong on shelves and racks.
  • Keeps inventory records current, periodically counting inventories to compare against the records.
  • Recommends items needing to be replenished to the Purchasing Manager in a timely manner.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Production Manager. Works with Purchasing, Shipping, and Receiving.

STOCK CLERK QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma or GED is required. Good overall health is important; good eyesight is essential. Good organizational and math skills are needed. Knowledge of inventory scanning and management systems is beneficial; we will train on our system.

STOCK CLERK PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to communicate orally with management, coworkers, shippers, etc., is crucial. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication may be required. Sitting or standing for extended periods are common. Hearing and vision within normal ranges is essential for normal conversations, to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents.

Heavy lifting (moving boxes, goods) by hand may be expected occasionally, though most goods over 30 lbs. will be moved to/from storage on a pallet jack or fork lift. Most health and safety gear (e.g., hard hat, gloves) will be provided; an allowance for safety shoes will be provided. Need good manual dexterity to use common office equipment (e.g., computers, calculators, scanning devices, fax machines).

Good reasoning ability is required to solve a wide range of business problems. Should be able to apply algebra or other analytics as required. Able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, bills of lading, and other documents to conduct business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The job may be performed indoors in a traditional warehouse or retail store setting. Exposure to common dust and dirt in a warehouse is expected. Activities include extended periods of sitting or standing and extensive work stocking shelves, moving boxes, and/or loading and unloading goods from its packaging.
