Question of the month:How can innovative leadership influence an organization’s success?
In June, our articles focused on leadership and its impact on organizational culture. The term leadership is quite broad. Whether you are the CEO of a large company or the manager of a small department, you can make a difference through your leadership skills.
Is Your Leadership Style Innovative?
Initiating structure means setting clear priorities and goals, establishing an organized approach to accomplishing the work, and allocating the resources effectively and properly. Showing consideration means recognizing people as individuals with lives, interests, and needs outside of the workplace that need to be recognized, accommodated, and even encouraged.

Leadership and Organizational Culture
There is a misconception among some organizational leaders that culture can be dictated from the top levels. Culture, however, can not be dictated anymore than one can dictate how someone else feels. While leaders cannot dictate culture, they certainly play a role in shaping it.

The ways in which successful leaders employ their leadership traits can be the difference between meeting standards and setting new ones. Our articles in June try to covey what leadership can mean to an organization, its members and its stakeholders.
On That Note
Answer to this month’s question:
Just like innovation is about thinking outside the box, innovative leadership involves trying different approaches and thinking in different ways. It is not necessarily rejecting the old and embracing the new, but, simply, trying out new ideas that are likely to fit well in the big picture. Innovative leaders understand that, at times, failure is a part of learning.
Innovative leaders have the ability to make people want to contribute to reaching goals. They keep their eye on the horizon as well as the bottom line. They tend to see the inherent and potential value of organizational operations instead of just the cost. So, when such leaders influence organizational cultures, chances are that the organization will be better prepared to face challenges and respond faster to competitive pressures.
