St. Louis Quality Conference 2009 is Gone, but not Forgotten

The ASQ St. Louis Spring Quality Conference 2009 concluded successfully on Friday, April 3. I’m using the word “successfully” with caution, because compared to the previous three years, the conference was smaller in attendance and, as a result, in the number of speakers. Attendance was down about 25% from last year, but more than 105 individuals still attended this year’s conference.
Bizmanualz was a very active participant at the conference. As one of the sponsors, we had a vendor booth. I was involved in some behind-the-scene planning as a member of the ASQ St. Louis Leadership Committee, and was also the “unofficial” photographer (see photos). Chris Anderson, our Managing Director, conducted two breakout sessions, and altogether six of us attended the conference and got to hear some good spearkers.
Each time the section chair or the conference chair thanked the helping individuals and organizations, it seemed that they mentioned our successful ISO registration audit last week. But my best part was when the auditor, during his session, wholeheartedly praised some of the good things we are doing at Bizmanualz. In particular, he seemed to be very pleased with our daily “management review” in front of the company scoreboard. He went on to say that it was one of the best management communication practices he’d seen in his 25 years of auditing.
The keynote address by Kim Tucci, co-founder of the Pasta House Company was also very entertaining and informative. He stressed the importance of quality to his business and provided some practical, real-life examples along with some humorous lines.
In general, the attendees seemed pleased with the overall conference presentation. I was glad I attended too. Each year, the conference might look similar, but it’s worthwhile learning about the breadth of experience the speakers and the participants bring. Next year St. Louis is hosting the ASQ World Conference. I am looking forward to it!
Bizmanualz has been at the forefront of deploying business best practices since 1995 delivering Policies, Procedures and Forms; quality systems implementation; and strategic business process improvement to help business owners achieve the growth and expansion they envision.

I felt lots of energy for positive change at the conference. As Mike Brooks CEO of Ardent Reels said, the people who attended see the possibilities for growth and improvement, and their role in that. Shailesh, great post. Thanks.–Dan
