ASQ World Conference on Quality and Improvement Time

It’s that time again for the ASQ World Conference on Quality and Improvement (WCQI). This year, it is in Minneapolis with the theme The Culture of Quality: Serving Customers, Organizations, and Communities. I have attended the last three conferences in Houston, Orlando, and Milwaukee. The show goes from Monday through Wednesday but there are a lot more events going on both before and after the show.
The week before the conference, you have an opportunity to attend the annual board meetings where they discuss the budget, programs, and strategy for the coming year. You can learn a lot about ASQ’s inner workings by attending the board meetings.
The last few years I have gone to the show as the Section chair for the ASQ St. Louis section. Each year I have participated in the leadership sessions on Saturday, and the Section Affairs Council (SAC) Meeting and Division Meetings on Sunday. This year I am helping out our region as the Deputy Regional Director. I have also joined the Lean Enterprise Division as the Internet Liaison, the membership and Education committees.
The leadership sessions provide leadership training and presentations about new ASQ strategies. I have learned a lot at these sessions. On Sunday it is more about leadership business for divisions or HQ committees.
The main conference starts on Monday. I am always able to take back a few new ideas from the presentations that I can incorporate into our business at Bizmanualz. Presenters come from all over to present quality and improvement practices.
I usually leave on Wednesday when the show is over. But there are post show training events too. If you are interested in quality then this is the biggest Quality show of the year. This year the program is partnering with three other shows – The Quality Institute for Healthcare, The Institute for Software Excellence, and Quality in Sustainability.
You can follow the event on twitter, linkedin, or other ASQ networks. Next year, the ASQ 2010 WCQI show is in St. Louis and will be hosted by ASQ St. Louis Section 1304. I know it will be one of ASQ’s best shows ever. After all, I will be the local site chair responsible for manpower and show staffing, and I am confident that it will turn out well.
