Inside the October issue

Question of the month: How do you address IT Governance issues at your organization? Find the answer at the end of this newsletter.

The big news this month was the launch of the Bizmanualz Computer & Network Policies, Procedures and Forms. This manual is designed to help organizations formulate IT policies and procedures, address IT management issues and develop processes and documentation to comply with IT standards like ISO17799 or COBIT.

Information Security and IT Standards

To preempt today’s ever-present threats and protect your information, you must have information securitymeasures in place to maximize results. This means developing and implementing a set of controls through appropriate policies, procedures and processes. Besides meeting your organization’s goals and objectives, these controls should also be aligned with other business processes in your organization.

Data, Information, Knowledge and Wisdom

Your usage of technology to manage your information can be a source of strategic advantage. But information is not enough you need knowledge and wisdom to build an organization. Information must be converted into knowledge by finding patterns within the relationships. Wisdom arises when the knowledge is transformed into insight or principles.

The new manual is the first publication to identify and provide the guidance and the tools required to accurately and efficiently determine the hardware, software, training and security requirements of an organization. This manual can be an invaluable resource for small- and mid-sized companies that do not have an experienced Chief Information Officer guiding the formulation of best practices and optimal standards to establish and implement formal IT policies and procedures.

On That Note

Answer to this month's question:

To address IT governance issues, including information security, businesses can either create their own structures and frameworks, or adopt universally accepted “best practices” standards that have been tried, tested and improved by a large number of organizations and individuals. Complying with IT standards like the ISO17799:2005 or COBIT can go a long way in demonstrating your commitment to information security management. In either case, there needs to be an easily communicable structure in place, supported by well-written policies, procedures and processes.

The new Computer and Network Manual from Bizmanualz focuses on a wide range of IT-related issues and also expedites your understanding and fulfillment of compliance requirements.

We will continue our discussion of IT Management in November. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments that you may have. Also, please let us know if you'd like any specific topic addressed in our future article-series.

“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin. When all is orderly,
he does not forget disorder may come”
